Dodgeball Dropouts FAQs

Kickball is a kids game. Why would adults want to play it?

To paraphrase Yogi Berra: 90 percent of this game is half drinking. WAKA kickball is not the game you played as a child. This version can be played with a cigar in one hand and a beverage in the other.

Has anyone on the team had any season-ending injuries?

Yes. Kickball is not as safe as it appears. Brian Broniak suffered a season-ending torn ligament at the first practice, and multiple teammates have gotten bumps and bruises in pursuit of kickball glory.

Is Captain Bob Bastek really as intense as he seems during pre-game huddles?

No. Just "keep it on the ground" and he'll be happy.

Are there benefits to having people take pictures at the game?

Yes. Someone might show the pictures to their co-workers who might in turn think that a certain Dropout is super-hunky. Not mentioning any names.

I read the game summaries with intense interest. Where are the summaries for games one and two?

Unfortunately, the team reporter wasn't sober enough to write summaries after those games. Rest assured that those games were more of the same old "Dropouts roll to victory" story.

Are any of the Dropouts training for a marathon?

Yes. 7.69% of the Dropouts are currently training for the Richmond Marathon.

But doesn't marathon training interfere with the all-important "social" aspect of kickball?

No. Runners who bandy about words like "fartlek" might frown upon beer consumption, but the Dropouts don't welcome those kind of people. The Dropouts' runners correctly view beer as an important source of carbohydrates, and thus enthusiastically carbo-load on Thursday nights in preparation for their Saturday morning long runs.

Why are so many Broniaks featured on the Dropouts homepage? Doesn't that make the team seem a little Broniak-centric?

No. The team is 11.54% Broniaks, and they are dedicated and consistent team members so it is appropriate to feature them. Also, the team photographer was not sober enough to take consistently "focused" pictures, and it just so happened that some of the better "in focus" pictures featured Broniaks.

Do the Dropouts have a special cheer?

Yes. Come to a game, and you'll get to experience it in person.

The Dropouts have a perfect record through five games. What's the secret to their success?

Defense.
