Week 4 Game Summary

In the fun-loving spirit of kickball, the Dodgeball Dropouts once again decided to let their opponent score a couple runs. This week, the lucky beneficiary of the Dropouts’ largesse was the Recess Rampage – unfortunately for the Rampage, though, the Dropouts dropped nine runs on them, making the final score 9-2.

Patrick Alley distinguished himself defensively, by having a hand in all three outs in the second inning, and offensively, with a head-over-heels dive into home that was described by some observers as Reillyesque. With the score still uncomfortably close, Bert Stanley broke open the game with a stogie-in-hand homer, and he and Duke Hazelgrove turned on the afterburners to round the bases and give the Dropouts a bigger cushion.

The Dropouts defense has been described by an opposing team’s scout as being like flypaper: whatever falls from the sky sticks to their arms. During yesterday’s game, the team lived up to their reputation with several spectacular catches by Omar Ramos, Todd Broniak, Stephen Williard and Jag Gadiyaram, among others.

With the score 9-2 in the top of the seventh, the Rampage still clung to a shred of hope that they could rally and turn the game around. They clung to that hope, that is, until Debbie Crane killed their dreams with the game-ending grab of a long fly ball to move the Dropouts to 4-0 on the season.
