In November 2002, Tom and Emily ran the Richmond Marathon (the first marathon for both of them).  And, yes, Tom dyed his beard a lovely shade of neon yellow to match his shirt (Emily figured that since she's signing up "for better or for worse" on September 27, she might as well start practicing now, so, no, she didn't kick Tom out of the house while that thing was attached to his chin.)  Emily finished in 3:30 and Tom finished in 4:14.  They trained with a YMCA training team, hence the YMCA shirts they are wearing in these pictures.

These are only a few of the almost 400 pictures that Emily's dad took during the marathon.  If you'd like to see more pics, click here.

Tom and his harem of training partners pose before the race.

Tom gets ready to grab a cup of Gatorade from the Grossman/Reilly Support Crew (a.k.a. the dads) at the 5 mile mark... only 21 miles to go!

Emily cruises past the 12 mile mark with aplomb, flanked by her training partners, Foo and Brian.

Inquiring minds want to know:  why in the world would Emily be grimacing as she passes 23 miles?  [In her defense, the guy running next to her - the one with the huge smile on his face and the spring in his step - jumped in at the 20 mile mark to pace her over the last six miles.]

Done!  Tom officially becomes a marathoner.

The marathoners take a moment to pose with their Support Crew before heading home
