Our Story

How We Met

Tom followed his gut and got on Match.com, when, in 2021, everyone was pretty much on Bumble and Hinge.

One early morning, Emelie sends Tom a message.

At this point in Tom's life, he had gone through quite a bit, and so he decided to not really take the dating apps too seriously.  Building a relationship has always been a serious topic for Tom, and he learned to take the apps with a grain of salt.

Tom at this point didn't know much about Emelie either.

So, Tom experimented with creative messages and banter that ultimately worked.

The online messages led to phone conversations.  We talked on the phone and video chat for 24 hours over the course of a week, and we met 5 days after our first message.

We talked about deep things that matter to us, not what most people would talk about that early on in dating.

It was through those conversations that Tom knew Emelie was the one.

Our Story

The Proposal

Emelie is born and raised in Sweden, and Tom hadn't left the USA even though he had a passport for so many years he had to renew it with no stamps in it!

Tom wanted to meet Emelie's family, and Emelie wanted to show Tom around Sweden.

So, we booked our tickets for Sweden.  At the time the tickets were booked, neither one of us had any idea that a proposal was coming.  Tom didn't have the ring yet, and Emelie wasn't suspecting anything.

A series of fractals occurred.  (A fractal is when something small tells you a larger story).

As a result of this, Tom bought a ring: online, sight-unseen.  Completely not Tom's typical way of doing things.

The ring ended up arriving about 12 hours before our flight to Sweden.  Tom took the ring with him, not knowing exactly how the proposal was going to occur.  (Which, if the detailed planning of this wedding is any indication, is not how Tom likes to do things). 😀

It just so happens that when booking lodging for Sweden, we had to have a separate hotel in the middle of the trip.  We decided to stay in Stockholm for those two nights.

Tom knew the Thursday we had to walk around Stockholm would be the day to propose.  At this point though, he only knew the qualities of nature that he knew he would like in the energy of the proposal.  That is to say the exact location of the proposal was still unknown.

Reading the energy of nature, Tom found the perfect spot to get down on one knee while walking around Stockholm.  Emelie was definitely not expecting it!  And of course, she said YES!

Flying Into Arizona
It's a destination for most

For many, this is a destination wedding.  Tom's family comes from mostly the east coast, from Pennsylvania, Maine, Virginia, and other states.  Emelie's friends and family are coming from Sweden and other European countries.  We truly appreciate your dedication.

The airport

We are looking in the Scottsdale area for wedding venues.  As such, the airport is Phoenix Sky Harbor, airport code PHX.  Everyone seems to have their go-to airline, and we just want to inform you that PHX is a hub for American Airlines, so flying American Airlines or one of their OneWorld partners (such as British Airways or FInnair) would be best in our opinion.

There are no trains or busses to get around within the secure area at PHX, so once you land (and clear customs, if applicable), follow signs for Baggage Claim on foot.  There are some moving walkways in PHX; however, if you need assistance getting around the airport, we suggest making your arriving airline aware of your needs.

Getting from the airport to your hotel

Once you get your bags at baggage claim, follow the signs over the exit doors for Ride Share / Uber / Lyft.  Taxi is an option too, but it will probably be more expensive.  Renting a car is completely optional; we are doing our best to address day-of transportation needs, assuming you are staying at one of our selected hotels.

We do know two very reliable local Arizona drivers that we regularly work with for ground transportation, especially for to/from the airport with arrivals or departures happening in the early hours of the day.

If you would prefer to secure a ride with one of the drivers we know so that they are waiting for you outside baggage claim, please contact us below once you have your tentative flight information.  Generally, we recommend you place your flight on hold for 24 hours with American Airlines, secure the ground transportation, and then pay for your flight.  The drivers' fees are very reasonable; we will know more once we secure accommodations, since most arrivals will be going to one of those hotels.
