The wedding (ceremony and reception) will be
held at the Inn at Idlewood in Sharon, Vermont (see Location
for more details). Sharon is right off I-89 (exit 2), about 10 miles
north of the I-91/I-89 merge. To get to the Inn from Interstate 89
(on the Vermont side of the Connecticut River), take Exit #2 for Sharon.
Go east on Rte. 132 (a right turn if you were going north on I-89) for 1/2
mile. Turn left on Steele Road, and you're there. Parking is in the field
on the left, and the Inn is on the right (handicapped parking is available in the Inn's driveway). Unfortunately, there are no major airports nearby. Here are your best bets if you're planning to fly:
If you fly into Burlington you'll need to rent a car to get to Thetford/Sharon. Manchester and Boston both have bus service to White River Junction. The nearest bus station is in White River Junction, VT (about 20 minutes from Thetford and 20 minutes from Sharon). Amtrak also has service to White River Junction. Here are driving times from some nearby cities (these times are all assuming normal weather/traffic conditions, a reasonable speed, and a normal number of pit stops):
We will post more specific directions as it gets closer to the date, so please check back. Also, one note regarding MapQuest: IT DOESN'T WORK IN VERMONT! For example, Emily's parents live in Thetford, VT. But, if you were to type their address into MapQuest, it would tell you they live in Fairlee, VT (10 miles north of Thetford) and send you all the way to Fairlee and then back to Thetford (20 miles out of your way). This is especially odd, because the company that makes the computerized maps used on MapQuest is only 10 miles away from Thetford. Emily's mom keeps meaning to mention this problem to the president when she sees him in the grocery store, but she always forgets. So, the moral of that story is: don't rely on Emily's mom to promptly inform the president of a mapping company about Thetford-related mapping problems. The other moral is don't rely on MapQuest in the sticks. We will post detailed maps and directions in a few months, but in the meantime please feel free to call Emily, Tom, Dan or Dana if you have questions.
