Scouting Report: Eggplant was a last-minute addition to the team, after the Honorary Flower Cats, Spike Grossman and Angus Reilly, failed to get plane tickets in time to make it to the wedding. "Spike and Angus needed to get their tickets at least two weeks in advance, and since they didn't get on the ball ticket prices skyrocketed," said a team official with knowledge of the situation. Eggplant, being a local cat, was chosen to fill in for Angus and Spike and be the point-cat for cat-related duties. "Eggplant is much older than Angus and Spike, so she's not as quick on her feet," said the same official. "But she's an outdoor cat, and since the ceremony is taking place outdoors she'll have a natural familiarity with the milieu." Eggplant will be expected to promptly fill the wedding party's needs for dead squirrels and rats, but due to her advancing age she will not be required to catch birds. "We're thrilled that Eggplant could join the team, and we think that having a cat on-site in Vermont will be a vital cog in the wheel of success," the team said in a statement announcing Eggplant's appointment. "We're disappointed that Angus and Spike will not be in Vermont, but we know they will do everything they can to contribute to a successful wedding." (Note: Eggplant died shortly before Christmas, after ably and enthusiastically fulfilling her wedding-related duties. She had a long a happy life and is missed by her family.) |
